Crafted with an uncompromising brewing philosophy rooted in the dedication and sincerity (shiseishin) of the distillers, this rice shochu delivers profound depth of flavor, harmoniously blended with the rounded softness characteristic of sweet potato shochu, resulting in a layered yet elegantly balanced profile. Vacuum distillation is employed to achieve a clean, crisp character, making it well suited for drinking neat or on the rocks; when enjoyed with hot water, the natural sweetness of the sweet potato becomes even more pronounced.

Produced by Shiratama Jyozo, the distillery renowned for the iconic shochu “Maou,” Tenchu is a distinctive creation that uses rice shochu as its base, blended with sweet potato shochu. The name “Tenchu” was originally intended to mean “shochu brewed from the bounty bestowed by heaven,” referring to rice and sweet potatoes as divine gifts, which would naturally suggest the name “Tenshu.” However, amid turbulent times and circumstances, the distillery deliberately chose the more resolute and symbolic name “Tenchu,” imbued with a stronger sense of will and conviction.
