Normally, when sake is served over ice, the flavor can gradually become diluted as the ice melts. This release, however, is specially brewed with a Koji rice ratio increased to 22%—2% higher than the brewery’s standard specification—allowing it to retain substantial and rich rice-derived umami even as the ice slowly melts. The aroma is elegant and expressive, while the palate delivers a crisp, tightly structured character supported by concentrated umami. When enjoyed at temperatures even lower than typical chilled sake, its sharp, cooling freshness becomes especially pronounced, making it an ideal choice for the hot summer months.

Sensuke Junmai ROCK Muroka Nama Genshu is a seasonal summer release from Izumi Sake Brewery in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, specially designed to be enjoyed On The Rocks with ice.

The charming label character, “Rockuma,” lives in a snow-covered land and loves listening to ROCK music while enjoying sake over ice. The label captures his deeply satisfied expression as he savors his drink, while the polka-dot background symbolizes ice cubes gradually melting. The number “22” beside the word “ROCK” represents the sake’s 22% Koji rice ratio.
