Description

This sake takes its name from a cultural reference, offering a gentle and refined flavor profile. While extra-dry Junmai sakes are often suited to pairing with blue-backed or red-fleshed fish, this sake’s smooth texture is designed to delicately enhance the subtle sweetness of white fish, shellfish, squid, and clams—an elegant companion that elevates the natural flavors of each dish.

From the Meiji to early Showa periods, geisha in Japan’s entertainment districts referred to sushi as “Yasuke.” The origin of the term traces back to the classic jōruri and kabuki play Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura. According to legend, after the Genpei War, Taira no Koremori, grandson of the defeated Taira no Kiyomori, fled and took refuge in a sushi shop under the alias “Yasuke.” Over time, “Yasuke” became a refined term for sushi in the geisha culture.
