Description

The sake exudes a sweet, mellow, and noble ginjo fragrance that rises gracefully from the glass. Brewed with the finest Yamada Nishiki from the Special A district of Hyogo Prefecture and matured for three years at ice temperature, it achieves a perfect harmony of gentle aged aroma and profound, dignified depth. On the palate, it is delicate and transparent, with refined flavors that radiate elegance at every turn, evoking the awe of an audience with a medieval noble queen.

This sake was first released in 1968 (Showa 43), at the time of President Kennedy’s assassination in the United States, as the very first Junmai Daiginjo ever launched in Japan. At its debut, it was Born’s proudest pinnacle, brewed with a polishing ratio of 40%. Today, a 40% polish may no longer sound extraordinary due to advancements in milling technology and the development of rice varieties that can withstand high polishing, but at the time, even competition-entry sake was typically polished only to 50%. Thus, 40% was equivalent to today’s ultra-high grade, such as a 23% polish.

Later, with the release of even higher-polish products like “Chogin” and “Dan,” this “Gokuhizo Daiginjo” was surpassed as the flagship, yet it evolved in turn—its polish refined from 40% to 35%—continuing to improve along with Born’s lineup. Among Born’s many offerings, this sake has secured its place as a classic long-selling expression through its proven excellence and enduring reputation. It is widely recommended nationwide as a quintessential high-aroma Junmai Daiginjo, combining both splendor and sophistication.
